Me and the Farmer is a family run business that strives to make a wide range of locally hand-made products that taste great.

Our Story

Our farm is more than just a place of work – it’s our family’s way of life, rooted in tradition, resilience, and a love for the land.

The story began with Jon, who founded Brooklands Farm with a vision of raising animals the right way – slowly, naturally, and with care. Alongside his wife Jenny, he dedicated his life to the land and livestock, building a reputation for honest farming and high-quality produce. When Jon suffered a stroke in November 2022, life on the farm changed forever. But rather than letting his legacy fade, the family rallied together to continue what he started.

Today, the farm and shop are carried forward by the next generations:

  • Kate, Jon and Jenny’s third daughter, who runs the shop and oversees the day-to-day running of the business.
  • Jono, Jon and Jenny’s only son, who now works in the kitchens, creating dishes that celebrate the farm’s produce.
  • Ella, Kate’s daughter and Jon and Jenny’s granddaughter, who also works in the kitchen, bringing youthful energy and helping to carry the family’s vision into the future.
  • And always, Jenny, who remains the heart of the family and a constant source of strength and support.

 

At the heart of Brooklands are our heritage breed pigs—British Saddleback, Oxford Sandy Black, Duroc, and Gloucester Old Spot. We chose these breeds not just for their character, but for the rich, flavourful pork they produce. Each animal is raised with respect, plenty of space, and the freedom to roam outdoors—because we believe happy, healthy animals make the best food.

From those beginnings, the farm has grown into the foundation of Me & The Farmer, our family-run shop here in St. Brelade. What started as a dream—11 years in the making to get planning permission—finally became a reality. Three years on, our shop is now a thriving hub for local produce, where we proudly offer not just our own pork, but also vegetables, baked goods, and artisan products from other Jersey farmers and makers who share our values.

Every loaf of bread, jar of jam, and cut of meat has a story behind it—a family, a field, a recipe, a tradition. Supporting local is at the heart of what we do. By shopping with us, you’re not just buying food—you’re investing back into Jersey’s farming community and keeping those traditions alive for future generations.

This is a farm built on love, hard work, and community spirit. We’re proud to welcome you to share in our journey—whether that’s through a Sunday roast, or a friendly chat at the shop counter.

Meet the Family

Jon

The man who started it all. Jon built Brooklands Farm from the ground up and set the standard for how things should be done—honestly, carefully, and with respect for the land. After his stroke in November 2022, he’s stepped back from the day-to-day, but you’ll often find him at the shop, sunbathing in his wheelchair and always ready for a friendly chat.

Jenny

The rock of the family. Jenny has kept things steady through every high and low, and she’s still the one who makes sure everyone is fed, watered, and pointed in the right direction. The farm wouldn’t be what it is without her quiet strength.

Kate

The multitasker-in-chief. As Jon and Jenny’s third daughter, Kate took the reins of Me & The Farmer and somehow juggles running the shop, keeping customers happy, wrangling paperwork, and still finding time to keep the kettle on.

Jono

The only son. You’ll now find Jono in the kitchen instead of the fields, cooking up hearty dishes that celebrate the farm’s produce. He’s usually elbow-deep in pork, pastry, or both.

Ella

The next generation. Kate’s daughter, and Jon and Jenny’s granddaughter, Ella is learning the ropes in the kitchen alongside her uncle Jono. She brings fresh ideas, plenty of energy, and keeps the family tradition moving forward.
